Deciding what's best for you child and making decisions about services they receive can seem a tad bit overwhelming. You have scoured the internet and have done your own countless hours of research. As a mother, I've been there too. However, let me help set your mind at ease or add to your research. If you are considering in-home Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services, you can rest assured as here are some of the benefits your child will be experiencing! 1. Convenience & Flexibility
An often overlooked advantage of in-home ABA therapy programs is the convenience and flexibility inherent in the programming. Providing ABA therapy in the child's home is often more convenient for families. In-home providers can work around children's schedules including other appointments, after school activities and nap time! No one wants to miss nap time. It can reduce the stress and burden of families with super busy schedules and therapy sessions can fit right into families routines without interruption. Home based ABA can save families time. 2. Reduced Transitions Transitions can be difficult for a lot of children and oftentimes is a goal that is worked on in ABA. Home-based ABA programming can eliminate the need to end favorite activities, get ready to leave the house, travel to an appointment and enter a new and unfamiliar building. This allows the BCBA and therapists to spend the entirety of a home based program acquiring new skills and not just overcoming resistance to transition to a therapy appointment. 3. Familiar Environment With home based ABA therapy, the BCBA and therapists can build rapport and observe any barriers or behavior concerns in the setting in which they typically occur. The child also has the opportunity to build rapport with the therapists in a place in which they feel most comfortable surrounded by their most rewarding and favorite things. Another benefit of being in home allows for programming in the naturally occurring environment and reduces the need for generalization programming to the home. Some behaviors and skills are only seen or practiced in the child's home. 4. Family Involvement One of the biggest benefit of home based ABA is the ability to have the parents and family members available to be activity involved in therapy sessions. Parents and caregivers can be trained and can provide data on treatment goals outside of sessions. Caregivers are able to observe techniques being used and programs being run. Being in the home allows for caregivers to asks questions and be actively involved which leads to better outcomes.
